WordPress was developed by Matt Mullenweg, Ryan Boren and Donncha O Caoimh originally as a blogging tool. It has now grown tremendously and become a popular choice not only for bloggers but also as a general content management system.WordPress is a free, open source system and – most importantly – is home to a huge community of developers who help support the project with a large and varied selection of plugin applications.
It is in part because of this community that WordPress is fast becoming one of my first and favourite choice applications when developing websites of varied size and requirements. Whether you require an e-commerice website with shopping cart functionality or a forum or business directory script, the WordPress community have provided some excellent scripts which help save on the cost of the development and mean that a more complex web development project can be turned-over much quicker.
